Show #3-April 22 12:00-1:00 pm on WCOM 103.5

Say cheese...........

Ok so Scott has not chimed in yet but I would like to take on the subject of digital cameras. Talk a bit about the base-line models, upgrades, basic elements to understand before you buy and how they work. Where is this technology going? Into phones, toys and other gadgets. Oohhh spy pen on Gadget Universe

Good sites to learn more about digital cameras, quality and brands:

http://www.dpreview.com/
find reviews of digital cameras

http://www.imaging-resource.com/
see actual photos taken by many brands

http://www.photographyreview.com/defaultcrx.aspx
do side by side feature reviews of a camera you might want to purchase

http://www.shortcourses.com/
short courses on how to use your camera, text heavy but useful

http://www.megapixel.net/html/cover.php
in both English and French this is my fav site to see photos and the actual camera with price that took the photo. This monthly web magazine features good introductory articles to digital photography, a searchable glossary and digital camera reviews.

http://www.steves-digicams.com/Steve has compiled an impressive array of manufacturer links, reviews, breaking news stories and other online resources.

Impermanence

...posted on 307knoxrecords.blogspot.com by KG.

With the recent events at Virginia Tech, we have all been reminded of how fleeting life can be. In these moments of life and death, this when we need to reflect and be thankful for the goodness that we do have in life now in this moment. I am thankful for my family, friends, a stable home life, and a job. I could go on and list more things but these are the things that help me make it through life.

Let's not forget all those people who are also dying from the ravages of war and genocide. Our life can be as brief as flash of lightning in the sky or as long as it would take a turtle to walk from Florida to Maine. We never know how long we will be on this earth. So, let's all take a moment be thankful for what we have right now; and then send good thoughts to all those families that have just lost their loved ones so randomly. Keep in mind for yourself and others, that no matter what form loss takes in peoples lives it is always hard to swallow. Peace.

Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive over the last few weeks. If we have not said thank you...then thank you.

I'm not afraid...

Even though RIM is suffering a CrackBlackBerry outage, (update: service is being 'restored'), we get... oh hell - from a better writer than I at TechWorld:
"Great ... another way to do boring graphs. Google is set to launch a competitor to PowerPoint, the lazy marketing exec's presentation tool and the bane of many a dull conference"

Google is going after Microsoft's dominant productivity apps, and I suspect the future's so bright, we'll all be wearing shades!

Since I do a good deal of PowerPointing in my role as a Biz Comm Rebel, I thought I'd head over to take a look see at what Google is doing. Sadly, it's just a news story at the moment - nothing to touch and click; but what I did find was Google's Docs & Spreadsheets app. Wow.

Wow.

Um, the future is here - total net convergence ... why not use Google to create, store and disseminate your memos, docs, etc? It's right THERE - a click or three away. Wow.

Now, having enjoyed my time with MS Office 2007 beta, I have to say that I'd use the best tool for the job, and if my job was to drive Word 8 hours a day, I think the real thing is what you'd want. Knowing that driving a computer 8 hours a day is more what we tend to do in offices, I definitely see where using a simpler tool to do just what you need to do - get words down onto a blank page - and combined with the ability to invite those who need to see it into a collaborative environment (read - let someone else fill in the "and here magic happens" details in your biz plan), where edits are easy to see, where you can save it, print it, archive it - I sense that the Google peeps know a thing or two about getting things done.

I wonder how many peeps at Google use the Docs & Spreadsheets app?

I'm not afraid - I'm excited about the future where my stuff is easy to get to - I'd be able to finish that novel I've always wanted to start, as I wait for my connection at JFK.

No fears what so ever...

Just a note on streaming the show...

Hi. Tis Scott, co-host of the show. Thought I'd admit to a bit of a problem I was able to overcome recently - no, not the drinking. No. Not the drugs!!!

I spent a few days furiously trying to get our station - WCOM - to stream to my laptop - no deal. Thought it might have been an issue with the vast number of media players I have installed (besides the fact that I'm running Win XP Media Center Edition!) - turns out it was my wireless router protecting me. Changing the permissions to a lower setting allowed the magic that is the interwebs to happen - right there in front of me!

Perhaps I should ponder what they were trying to protect me from, but I'm just glad I can now listen to all the good programming WCOM has to offer!

Thought I'd offer that as a trouble shooting suggestion, in case anyone else was having problems.

ciao,
s.
