Show #10-Ex-Members and Beloved Binge-Computers, samplers, recording live shows and beats.

Show #10

Ex-Members
EX-MEMBERS are an Indie-Electro-Rock band from Durham, NC featuring the vocal power of riot grrrl Shirlé Hale (ex-Gerty!, Womyn of Destruction & Mary Lou Lord), the hard-hitting groove of Melissa York (ex-Butchies, Team Dresch, & Vitapup) & the rhythmic strumming of David K (ex-Gerty! & Liquor Bike).

Combining electronics, dance beats, punk rock and naughtiness, EX-MEMBERS are about to burst at the seems.

They are coming in today to chat about their new ep, upcoming tour with Team Dresch and how much techy stuff they use.

Beloved Binge
"Like wonderful Chicago co-eds The Spinanes, Beloved Binge hustles through minimal guitar-and-drum pop obsessed with sparseness, space and sear. But they do it with the gumption of 764-Hero and, occasionally, the enthusiastic bluster of Sonic Youth." GC, Independent Weekly, October 2006

“...it's nice to have Seattle's transplanted Beloved Binge (who moved to Durham last year) in our midst. On "Other Places"…the tandem of Rob Beloved and Eleni Binge play stripped-down punk rock that doesn't feel thin, combining the howling abandon of Sleater-Kinney with a very fine attention to poppy detail…”-- David Menconi, News and Observer, from Critic’s Picks, On the Best Rock & More, 1/12/07

The Binge made our theme song. We will be hitting them up for info about Local 506's Magic Monday's, June 11th and how they make such great recordings of live shows.

Show #9-The Future Kings of Nowhere and the not so fun death of the CD discussion

Hi,

Michael Geist

The Lefsetz Letter

CrateKings.com

Alt.chapelhill posting as well.

All great commentary about the 'death of the CD'. This coming in at a time when a great local band i.e. see below is getting ready to release their first full-length CD. I hope this discussion did not scare them...how could it right?. Each artist should do what they see fit.
If you hate buying CDs then don't.
Download music after you pay for it.
Ok.

The Future Kings of Nowhere.

FKoN have the ability to take an acoustic guitar and produce a sound that people don't associate with acoustic.

Really... the FKoN sum up their style best on their Myspace page- "If pressed, this Durham/Chapel Hill group (Shayne O'Neill on vocals and guitar, Dan Kinney on drums, and a revolving cast of other players) will tell you that they play "acousticore," music for people who are angrier than Peter, Paul or Mary, but nicer than Henry Rollins."

Their album comes out in June. CD release party at Ringside, Durham on June 23rd.

We will be chatting about how they support their band with the use of technology.
